Walk 03 — República by Night

A short, well-judged evening

You don't need to go far for a great night in Centro. This loop is deliberately compact — a rooftop for the sunset, a historic bar for live music, the lit-up plaza, and a short walk home. Two or three easy hours, best started after seven.

The route

1. A rooftop for sunset — ride up to the Terraço Itália or the Farol Santander deck and time it for the light going down over the skyline. See the rooftops guide.
2. Bar Brahma — down to the corner of Ipiranga and São João, the historic bar with regular live samba and choro. Order a cold chopp and stay for a set.
3. Praça da República, lit up — walk back through the plaza while it's glowing. The district reads completely differently at night.
4. A boteco nightcap — one more stop at a neighborhood bar in Vila Buarque or toward Praça Roosevelt (more in Nightlife and Live Music).
5. Home — a short walk, or a two-minute app-car, back up to the Suite.

The whole point of an evening in Centro: a rooftop, a boteco, a lit plaza, and a bed you can almost see from the bar.

Notes

Keep to the lively streets, which is where this route runs anyway, and take an app-car for any longer hop rather than walking empty blocks late. The best part of staying on the plaza is that the night always ends a few steps from your door — and the view from the window is a fine last drink.
